Abdullah ibn Jubayr

ʿAbdullāh ibn Jubayr was a Companion of the Prophet (ﷺ) from the Aws tribe of the Anṣār. At the Battle of Uḥud (3 AH), the Prophet (ﷺ) appointed him commander of the fifty archers stationed atop Jabal ar-Rumāh (the Mount of Archers). The Prophet (ﷺ) gave him a categorical command: "Do not leave your position whether we are winning or losing, until my command reaches you." When the Muslims routed the Quraysh and soldiers began collecting ghanīmah, forty of the fifty archers succumbed to temptation and descended despite ʿAbdullāh's protests. He reminded them repeatedly of the Prophet's command, declaring: "By Allah, I will not move from my place until the command comes to me." He held his post with the remaining ten archers. When Khālid ibn al-Walīd (then still a Mushrik) spotted the abandoned position, he launched his counter-offensive through the ravine near the mount. ʿAbdullāh ibn Jubayr was martyred holding his post.
