Biography
Abdullah ibn Judʿān of Banu Taym was reckoned the most generous and hospitable man of Mecca in his time, and a kinsman of the family of Abu Bakr. At his house the chiefs of Quraysh gathered to swear the Pact of Ḥilf al-Fuḍūl. He died before the call to Islam; and when Aisha asked the Prophet ﷺ whether his generosity would avail him, he said it would not, for he never once asked his Lord for forgiveness.
Significance
Host of the Pact of Ḥilf al-Fuḍūl, and the subject of a hard teaching on faith and deeds: that goodness without belief did not avail him.
