Abu Musa al-Ash'ari

A famed Companion of Yemeni (Ashʿar) origin and a great narrator of hadith. In the skirmishes pursuing Hawāzin after Ḥunayn his uncle, a commander, was struck down by a javelin; Abū Mūsā avenged him, then carried his dying request to the Prophet ﷺ, who rose, made wuḍūʾ, and raised his hands until his armpits showed to pray for the man's forgiveness and rank, and, at Abū Mūsā's asking, for Abū Mūsā too. His son Abū Burda became a leading scholar of the Tābiʿūn, proud that the Prophet ﷺ had prayed for both his father and grandfather.
