Al-Mundhir ibn Muhammad

Al-Mundhir ibn Muḥammad was an Anṣārī Companion who, together with ʿAmr ibn Umayyah al-Ḍamrī, had been away from camp when the massacre at Biʼr Maʿūnah took place (4 AH). Finding vultures circling the site on their return, the two debated whether to retreat and report back or press on. Al-Mundhir refused to leave the place where his companions had won martyrdom, and refused to be the one who merely survived to tell their story while they themselves attained shahādah. He advanced into the site and was killed, attaining the martyrdom he had sought.
