Amir ibn al-Akwa

ʿĀmir ibn al-Akwaʿ was a companion who fought at the Battle of Khaybar in 7 AH. When Marḥab, the champion and chieftain of the fortress of al-Nāʿim, came out and challenged the Muslims to single combat, ʿĀmir was the first to answer the challenge. Marḥab cut him down, and ʿĀmir died a shahīd. It was ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib who then took up the duel and slew Marḥab, the first great Muslim victory of the campaign.
