ʿAmr ibn Luḥayy al-Khuzāʿī

ʿAmr ibn Luḥayy al-Khuzāʿī was the chief of Khuzaʿah, the tribe that ruled Mecca before Quraysh reclaimed it. The Prophet ﷺ named him as the first to change the religion of Ismaʿil: travelling to Syria and seeing the Amalekites prosper with their idols, he brought back the idol Hubal and set it before the Kaʿbah, and revived the five idols of the people of Nuh. So idolatry, after long ages of monotheism, entered Arabia through him.
