As'ad ibn Zurara

Asʿad ibn Zurārah رضي الله عنه was one of the six men from the Khazraj who became the first converts to Islam from Yathrib, meeting the Prophet ﷺ at Aqabah in Mina during the 10th year of Da'wah. He was from the Banu Najjar, a subtribe of the Khazraj.

He was among the most active propagators of Islam in Yathrib after returning from the first meeting. When the Prophet ﷺ later sent Muṣʿab ibn ʿUmayr to Yathrib as the first Islamic teacher, Asʿad ibn Zurārah was his host and main support. Asʿad became the first Naqīb (representative/headman) appointed for the Khazraj. He died before the Battle of Badr, some say from illness, making him among the first Ansari Companions to pass away in Madinah. The Prophet ﷺ prayed his Janazah personally and mourned him.
