Asma bint Umays

Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays, one of five daughters of the same mother as Zaynab bint Khuzaymah, was married to Jaʿfar ibn Abī Ṭālib, with whom she emigrated to Abyssinia. Widowed at Jaʿfar's martyrdom in the Battle of Muʾtah, she was personally consoled by the Prophet (ﷺ), who told her not to weep over "my brother" and took responsibility for the care of Jaʿfar's orphaned children.

She remained unmarried through the rest of the Prophet's (ﷺ) lifetime, then married Abū Bakr aṣ-Ṣiddīq during his caliphate, only months before his death; she was pregnant with his son Muḥammad ibn Abī Bakr when Abū Bakr died. After Abū Bakr's death she married ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, Jaʿfar's younger brother, and bore him sons as well, making her one of the very few women in Islamic history to have been married in succession to three of the most prominent men of the early Ummah, and to have had children by each of them.
