Bughayd ibn Amir

The scribe who physically wrote the Boycott treaty, the document that all Quraysh tribes signed, imposing a total social, economic, and marriage boycott on the Banū Hāshim and Banū al-Muṭṭalib.

The Prophet (SAW) made duʿāʾ against Bughayd ibn ʿĀmir specifically because of his role in writing this document. The narrations record that his hand became paralyzed and remained so until he died.

He is remembered in the Seerah primarily as an example of the principle that persecution of believers carries consequences even in this world, and that the Prophet's duʿāʾ against specific persecutors was answered in specific, documented ways, as with Abū Jahl's killing at Badr, and Uqbah ibn Abī Muʿayṭ's execution after Badr.
