Biography

Heraclius was the Byzantine emperor in the time of the Prophet , learned in scripture. When the Prophet's letter reached him, he questioned Abu Sufyan about the new Prophet at Jerusalem and concluded, 'If what you say is true, this is the Prophet whose coming was foretold.' His bishop confirmed it; yet Heraclius would not surrender his throne to follow the truth, and died upon his faith.

Significance

The emperor who acknowledged the signs of prophethood yet clung to power, a witness from outside Arabia to the truth of the message.
