Hisham ibn al-As

Brother of ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ and a companion of ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb's emigration group. He had arranged to emigrate to Madinah with ʿUmar and ʿAyyāsh ibn Abī Rabīʿah, but was captured by the Quraysh before he could reach the meeting point. While ʿUmar and ʿAyyāsh reached Madinah, Hishām was imprisoned in Makkah.

When ʿAyyāsh was later tricked and brought back to Makkah, the two were held together in a specially constructed prison. The Prophet ﷺ in Madinah made Duʿāʾ Qunūt for them after rising from Rukūʿ: "O Allāh, save ʿAyyāsh ibn Abī Rabīʿah. O Allāh, save Hishām ibn al-ʿĀṣ. O Allāh, save the weak and oppressed." Al-Walīd ibn al-Walīd eventually rescued both from their prison in a daring night raid. Hishām later fought in the cause of Allāh and was martyred at the Battle of Yarmouk against the Romans.
