Hisham ibn Amr

A Qurayshī who organized the coalition that publicly challenged the Boycott of Banū Hāshim and ultimately broke it. He was the grandson of ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib through his mother ʿĀtikah bint ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, making him a cousin of the Prophet (SAW) through the maternal line.

He was personally moved by the suffering he witnessed in the valley, his own kinspeople starving, and felt it was unjust regardless of the religious question. He reached out to like-minded individuals in Quraysh who shared his discomfort with the boycott, including Zuhayr ibn Abī Umayyah, Muṭʿim ibn ʿAdī, Abū al-Bukhtarī ibn Hishām, and others.

His coalition's strategy: coordinate their positions in advance, then rise one by one at the Nādī (the Meccan assembly) to publicly challenge Abū Jahl, making it look spontaneous and drawing on the public's growing unease with the boycott. When Abū Jahl said "You've all hatched a plan," he was right, but no one admitted it, and public momentum had already shifted.

He is not recorded to have accepted Islam. He was motivated by tribal justice and familial feeling, the same values that sometimes, in the Seerah, Allāh used to bring benefit to the Muslims from unexpected sources.
