Prophet Idris (Enoch)
إِدْرِيسُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُIdrīs Alayhi Salām
Prophet
Biography
Idrīs (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ), associated with the biblical Enoch, is mentioned in the Quran in Surah Maryam 19:56-57: 'And mention Idrīs in the Book, he was a man of truth, a prophet. And We raised him to a high place (وَرَفَعْنَاهُ مَكَانًا عَلِيًّا).' This is the only authentic information about him beyond what the hadith of the Mi'raj tells us. He was met in the fourth heaven. Any additional stories about Idrīs from non-authentic sources are fabricated or weak.
Significance
'Wa rafa'nahu makanan 'aliyya' (We raised him to a high place) parallels 'Wa rafa'na laka dhikrak' (We raised your remembrance) for the Prophet ﷺ, both are being elevated to heights others cannot reach
