Biography

ʿĪsā (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ) is a prophet born of the Virgin Maryam. Allah raised him bodily before crucifixion could occur (إِنِّي رَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ). He was met twice during the Isrāʾ wal-Miʿrāj: standing and praying at Baitul Maqdis (he physically descended since he is still alive), and again in the second heaven alongside his maternal cousin Yaḥyā. He is described as whitish-reddish in complexion, medium height, hair glistening with moisture. His physical descent to meet the Prophet foreshadows his ultimate descent near the Day of Judgment.

Significance

His people tried to crucify him, showing the Prophet ﷺ he is not alone in facing mortal opposition from his own; his physical descent for this meeting foreshadows his final descent at the end of times
