جِبْرِيلJibrīl
Angel of Revelation · Intermediary of Divine Revelation · Guide during Isrāʾ wal-Miʿrāj
Biography
Jibrīl (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ) is the foremost of the angels and the Angel of Revelation. He was the intermediary through whom Allah sent the Quran to the Prophet ﷺ verse by verse over 23 years. He first appeared in the Cave of Ḥirāʾ for the first revelation. He was the guide and escort throughout the Isrāʾ wal-Miʿrāj, opening the Prophet's chest, introducing Al-Burāq, escorting the journey to Baitul Maqdis, and requesting permission at each of the seven heavenly gates. He appeared in his original form (600 wings, filling the horizon) on two occasions: at the beginning of revelation (Surah An-Najm 53:13) and at Sidrat al-Muntahā during the Miʿrāj.
Significance
