Jubayr ibn Mut'im

Jubayr ibn Muṭʿim was a nobleman of the Quraysh and the son of the celebrated Muṭʿim ibn ʿAdiyy, one of the two great non-Muslim protectors of the Prophet (ﷺ). Unlike his noble father, Jubayr harboured intense enmity toward the Muslims at Uḥud. His uncle Ṭuʿaymah ibn ʿAdiyy had been killed by Ḥamzah at Badr; driven by family vengeance, Jubayr promised his Abyssinian slave Waḥshī his freedom if Waḥshī killed Ḥamzah. Jubayr himself was captured as a prisoner at Badr and held in the Masjid in Medina. During this captivity, he heard the Prophet (ﷺ) recite Sūrah aṭ-Ṭūr in Ṣalāt al-Maghrib. When the Prophet reached the verse "Am khuliqu min ghayri shayʾin am humul-khāliqūn," Jubayr said his heart was "about to leap out of his chest", the first stirring of īmān. He did not convert then, but eventually accepted Islam after the Conquest of Mecca (8 AH) and became a Ṣaḥābī (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu).
