Julaibib

Julaibib was a companion of the Ansar whose lineage, tribe, and even given name are unknown, "Julaibib" ("little Jilbāb") was only a nickname. Poor, short of stature and dark-skinned, he was mocked and unclaimed by any tribe, yet his heart was pure and he was beloved to the Prophet ﷺ, who would bring him forward in his gatherings. The Prophet ﷺ personally proposed marriage on his behalf to a woman of the Ansar; when her family balked, she insisted that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would never let her go to waste, and the Prophet ﷺ prayed that good be poured upon her. Julaibib fought in battle and was found martyred beside seven of the enemy he had slain. The Prophet ﷺ took him up, declared three times, "O Allah, this one is from me and I am from him," and buried him with his own hands.
