Kaʿb ibn Zayd

Biography

Kaʿb ibn Zayd was one of the seventy Companions massacred at Biʼr Maʿūnah (4 AH). Badly wounded, he collapsed and was buried under the bodies of his fallen companions as they piled up, going unnoticed by the attackers and surviving the massacre as a result. He made his way back to Madinah and lived on for roughly two more years before being martyred at the Battle of al-Khandaq.

Significance

One of only three survivors of the Biʼr Maʿūnah massacre, having been left for dead beneath the bodies of his companions; martyred two years later at the Battle of al-Khandaq
