Khalid ibn Sufyan al-Hudhali

Khālid ibn Sufyān al-Hudhalī was the chieftain of the tribe of Hudhayl, who began gathering a force to launch a surprise attack on Madinah shortly after Uḥud (Muḥarram 4 AH). The Prophet (ﷺ) learned of this through revelation and sent a single Companion, ʿAbdullāh ibn Unays al-Juhanī, on a one-man mission to eliminate him before he could assemble his army. Khālid was found in the valley of ʿAranah with only a small guard and killed there. His death was one of the immediate triggers for Hudhayl's subsequent revenge plot that led to the massacre at ar-Rajīʿ.
