Kulthum ibn Hidm

An elderly Ansari companion from the Banū ʿAmr ibn ʿAwf clan, one of the sub-tribes of the Aws. He hosted the Prophet ﷺ during the Prophet's stay in Qubāʾ, specifically for the nights, while the Prophet ﷺ would spend his days at the house of Saʿd ibn Khaythama. The arrangement was practical: Kulthūm was a married man with a household, and a man's house in Arabian custom was not ideally suited for hosting streams of visitors. He spent nights there but received guests at the bachelor's house next door.

Subḥānallāh, the only other thing recorded about him is that he was the first Muslim to die in Madinah after the Prophet ﷺ arrived. His age had already been great when the Prophet came; Allāh had preserved him just long enough to host the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ in those first days. He passed away shortly after, becoming the first of the Anṣār to meet Allāh after the Hijrah had established the first Islamic community in Madinah.
