Māriyah al-Qibṭiyyah was a Coptic Egyptian woman sent to the Prophet ﷺ, along with her sister Shīrīn, as a gift from al-Muqawqis, the ruler of Egypt, in response to the Prophet's ﷺ letter calling him to Islam. She bore the Prophet ﷺ his son Ibrāhīm, becoming known by the honorific Umm Ibrāhīm, one of only two sons born to him in adulthood, and the only child born to him outside his marriage to Khadījah.
Significance
Her arrival links the letters-to-kings episode directly to the Prophet's ﷺ household, and her son Ibrahim's short life becomes a significant later event in the sīrah.
