Murārah ibn al-Rabīʿ
مُرَارَة بْن الرَّبِيع الْعَمْرِيّMurārah ibn al-Rabīʿ al-ʿAmrī
Biography
An Anṣārī Companion and a veteran of Badr (a Badrī). He was one of the three believers, with Kaʿb ibn Mālik and Hilāl ibn Umayya, who stayed behind from Tabūk without excuse yet refused to lie to the Prophet ﷺ, confessing the truth while some eighty hypocrites offered false excuses. All three endured the fifty-day boycott; Murārah shut himself in his house and wept. Their repentance was accepted by revelation (9:118).
Significance
One of the Three whose sincere repentance is recorded in the Qurʾān (9:118); that both he and Hilāl were men of Badr weighed with Kaʿb, who chose their company of truth over the crowd of excuse-makers.
