Nawfal ibn Abdullah

Nawfal ibn ʿAbdullāh was one of the small group of Qurashī horsemen who managed to cross the trench during the Battle of the Trench (5 AH), alongside ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd Wudd. Al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām charged and struck him with such force that his body split apart, a blow later credited not to the sword but to al-Zubayr's own strength, in his own words. His body lay in the open for a time before Quraysh sent an offer to purchase it back for burial; the Prophet ﷺ refused any payment for a corpse, telling them to take the body and bury it without charge.
