Rabi'a ibn Abbad

Rabīʿa ibn ʿAbbād was a child from one of the Arab tribes whose father was a chieftain. As a boy, he accompanied his father to Mina during the Hajj season in the period when the Prophet ﷺ was presenting himself to tribes. He witnessed the Prophet ﷺ approaching his father's tent, inviting them to Islam and asking for tribal protection. He also witnessed an elderly man, whom he later learned was Abu Lahab, waiting behind the Prophet ﷺ and then coming forward to cancel whatever the Prophet had just said to each tribe.

His narration is one of the key eyewitness accounts preserved in the classical books of Seerah describing the Prophet's ﷺ tribe-presentation campaign in Mina. He saw the Prophet ﷺ as a 'young man' with a black beard, implying a vigorous appearance even though the Prophet was then in his early 50s. He later converted to Islam.
