Sa'd ibn ar-Rabi'

Saʿd ibn ar-Rabīʿ al-Anṣārī was one of the senior leaders of the Khazraj tribe and a key figure of the Madinan Anṣār. When al-ʿAbbās's letter arrived warning the Prophet ﷺ about the Qurayshi army marching to Uḥud, the Prophet ﷺ first confided privately in Saʿd ibn ar-Rabīʿ (before calling the general assembly the following Friday), consulting him on how to respond to the unprecedented situation of Madinah facing a direct military attack.

He was among the close leadership circle the Prophet ﷺ relied on for mashwarah (consultation) on critical decisions. He was martyred at the Battle of Uḥud, receiving numerous wounds, after the battle, the Prophet ﷺ sent a Companion to look for him among the dead, and he was found still alive but with fatal wounds. When asked if he had any final wish, he said: 'Give my salām to the Prophet ﷺ and tell him that he has no excuse before Allah if anything happens to him while I still have strength to protect him.'
