Sallam ibn Abi al-Huqayq

Sallām ibn Abī al-Ḥuqayq was one of the wealthiest and most senior leaders of the Jewish community of Khaybar. He served as the principal financier of the mercenary forces of Ghaṭafān during the Battle of the Trench (5 AH), the bulk of the Confederate coalition's fighters having been paid mercenaries with no personal stake in the conflict against Islam. Because of his role in bankrolling that campaign and the likelihood he would fund further hostilities, the Khazraj, seeking to match the Aws's earlier elimination of Kaʿb ibn al-Ashraf, requested the Prophet's ﷺ permission to eliminate him. A five-man team led by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAtīk infiltrated Khaybar's fortress by night in 6 AH and killed him in his own home, sparing his wife despite her alarm, per the Prophet's ﷺ explicit instruction that no women or children be harmed.
