Sulafah bint Sa'd

Sulāfah bint Saʿd was a pagan woman whose husband was killed by ʿĀṣim ibn Thābit at the Battle of Uḥud. She vowed she would not rest until she drank wine from ʿĀṣim's skull, and offered a bounty of one hundred camels to anyone who brought it to her. When ʿĀṣim was killed at ar-Rajīʿ (4 AH), his body was miraculously protected from retrieval, first by a swarm of wasps, and then by a sudden flash flood that carried the body away entirely, leaving Sulāfah's vow permanently unfulfilled.
