Biography
Thābit ibn Qays ibn Shammās was an Anṣārī Companion to whom Juwayriyyah bint al-Ḥārith was allocated as a captive following the expedition of al-Muraysīʿ (5 AH). He agreed to a mukātabah contract allowing her to purchase her own freedom through installment payments, a right protected under Islamic law. When she instead sought help from the Prophet (ﷺ) to raise the funds, he paid off her contract himself and married her, releasing Thābit's claim on her entirely.
