A Companion of the tribe of Daws, the tribe of Abū Hurayrah. After the Conquest the Prophet ﷺ sent him with four hundred men to destroy the great idol Dhū al-Kaffayn in the south, which the Daws had housed in a rival structure they defiantly called "the Kaʿbah." Ṭufayl, who could never keep his seat on a horse, asked the Prophet's ﷺ duʿāʾ and never fell again; he burned the temple to the ground.
Significance
One of the Companions sent out after the Conquest to erase the remaining idols of Arabia, he destroyed Dhū al-Kaffayn of Daws.
