Umm Sa'd

Umm Saʿd was the mother of Saʿd ibn Muʿādh, chieftain of the Aws. ʿĀ'ishah narrates that during the Battle of the Trench (5 AH), while staying in the fortress of al-Fāriʿ with the other women and children, she sat with Umm Saʿd when Saʿd came to bid his mother farewell before returning to the front line, dressed in armor that left his arms exposed. Umm Saʿd urged her son not to delay and to hurry to rejoin the other fighters, while ʿĀ'ishah privately worried aloud to her about the inadequacy of his armor, a worry that proved prescient when Saʿd was struck by an arrow in the exact unprotected spot on his arm shortly afterward, a wound from which he would later die.
