Utbah ibn Abi Waqqas

ʿUtbah ibn Abī Waqqāṣ was a pagan Qurashī of Banū Zuhrah and the blood brother of the great Companion Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ (raḍiyallāhu ʿanhu), one of the many instances at Uḥud where blood brothers fought on opposite sides. He fought within Khālid ibn al-Walīd's contingent. During the crisis when the Prophet (ﷺ) took refuge with a small band, ʿUtbah struck the Prophet (ﷺ) with a thrown stone that injured his lip, and separately loosed an arrow that pierced the chink in the Prophet's armor, entering his cheek and dislodging one of his teeth, the most severe of the Prophet's wounds at Uḥud.
