Biography
Yaḥyā (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ) was the son of Prophet Zakariyyā and the maternal cousin of ʿĪsā ibn Maryam (their mothers were sisters, ibn al-khāla). He was martyred in Baitul Maqdis by Banī Isrāʾīl, as recorded in their own scriptures. The Prophet ﷺ met him alongside ʿĪsā in the second heaven, where both greeted him: مَرْحَبًا بِالْأَخِ الصَّالِحِ وَالنَّبِيِّ الصَّالِحِ ('Welcome, O righteous brother and O righteous prophet').
Significance
His martyrdom at the hands of his own people, recorded in their own scriptures, shows the Prophet ﷺ that rejection and mortal opposition from one's own nation is not unprecedented
