Yasir ibn Akhtab
يَاسِرُ بْنُ أَخْطَبَYāsir ibn Akhṭab
Biography
Yāsir ibn Akhṭab was the brother of Ḥuyayy ibn Akhṭab, a chieftain of Banū al-Naḍīr, and the uncle of Ṣafiyyah bint Ḥuyayy. When the Prophet (ﷺ) first arrived in Madinah, Yāsir and Ḥuyayy went together to investigate whether he might be the awaited prophet their people had long expected. According to Ṣafiyyah's own later account, Yāsir asked his brother directly on their return whether it was truly him; Ḥuyayy confirmed it was, but both men chose to reject him out of tribal loyalty rather than accept a prophet from outside their own lineage.
Significance
Alongside his brother Huyayy, privately recognized the Prophet (ﷺ) as the awaited prophet upon investigation, yet chose tribal rejection over acceptance, an episode preserved through his niece Safiyyah's firsthand account
