Biography
Yūsuf (عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ) was given shaṭr al-ḥusn, half of all created beauty, as confirmed by the Prophet ﷺ upon seeing him in the third heaven. His brothers sold him into slavery out of jealousy, he was imprisoned in Egypt, yet rose to become Viceroy. When his brothers returned in need, he forgave them: لَا تَثْرِيبَ عَلَيْكُمُ الْيَوْمَ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكُمْ. The Prophet ﷺ quoted these exact words when he stood over the Kaaba at the Conquest of Mecca and the Quraysh who had expelled him came before him.
Significance
His story, rejection by brothers, then reconciliation, is the template for Quraysh's eventual acceptance of Islam; the Prophet ﷺ literally quoted Yusuf at Fatḥ Makkah
