Zayd ibn Arqam

Zayd ibn Arqam al-Anṣārī al-Khazrajī was one of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ from the Khazraj tribe of Madinah. He was among those sent back from the Battle of Uḥud (3 AH) for being under the age of fifteen, one of five young Companions turned away that day.

He is perhaps most famous for another pivotal incident: it was Zayd ibn Arqam who overheard ʿAbdullāh ibn Ubayy ibn Salūl make his infamous statement, 'If we return to Madinah, the stronger will expel the weaker', and reported it to the Prophet ﷺ. This report led to the revelation of Sūrah al-Munāfiqūn (Q 63). The Prophet ﷺ confirmed the truth of what Zayd reported, honoring him with the words: 'Allah has fulfilled your ears (i.e., confirmed what you heard).'

Zayd ibn Arqam narrated numerous Ḥadīths and is counted among the significant Anṣārī Companions. He later settled in Kūfah and died approximately in 65–68 AH.
