The Results of Ḥunayn and Ṭāʾif: The Last War Against Shirk in Arabia

Shaykh Yasir Qadhi explains:

The lecture closes with the results of Ḥunayn and Ṭāʾif. First, a clear victory across the entire Ḥijāz. Though Ṭāʾif itself was not yet Muslim, it was now only a small island of shirk in an ocean of tawḥīd, idolatry had been abolished publicly throughout the region, with Ṭāʾif still pagan only within its walls, and only for a few more months.

❧The last battle against idolatry

Ḥunayn was the very last battle the Prophet ﷺ and the Companions fought against the mushrikūn of Arabia. After the Conquest of Makkah and then Ḥunayn, Arab idolatry was finished; the wars to come would be against Rome and Persia, and the conquests, Egypt and beyond, would begin. Arab shirk was the final domino, and it fell within less than a year.

❧A miracle of the Sīrah

This is itself one of the greatest miracles of the Sīrah: Arabia had been a land of idolatry, and within twenty-two years there were no Arab idolaters left at all, shirk in Jazīrat al-ʿArab completely wiped away, something no human effort could have achieved. And the final benefit: the tribe of Quraysh had, in its totality, embraced Islam. A handful may have fled to Rome or elsewhere and died in obscurity, but every one of the elite who remained came into the faith.
