Biography
Abu Barza al-Aslami, whose given name was Nadlah ibn 'Ubayd, was a companion of the Prophet ﷺ from the tribe of Aslam. He embraced Islam early and is counted among the narrators of hadith. He is the narrator of the famous account of Julaibib: in his own household, before the verses of hijab were revealed, Julaibib used to sit and talk with the women, until Abu Barza, out of jealousy, warned against it, yet he lived to witness how the Prophet ﷺ honoured Julaibib in marriage and in martyrdom, and he preserved the story for the ummah. He lived a long life and died around 65 AH.
Significance
The companion who preserved the story of Julaibib, through his narration the ummah remembers a man whom society overlooked but the Prophet ﷺ claimed as his own.
