Abu Dharr al-Ghifari (Jundub ibn Junadah) was from the Banu Ghifar tribe near Makkah. He was among the earliest people to embrace Islam, among the first five or so converts. Known for his fierce honesty and asceticism (zuhd), he voluntarily lived among Ahl aṣ-Ṣuffah in Madinah despite having other options. The Prophet ﷺ praised him: 'The sky has not shaded, nor has the earth borne, a more truthful man than Abu Dharr.'
Significance
One of the earliest converts to Islam; renowned for his uncompromising honesty and zuhd (asceticism); key resident of Ahl aṣ-Ṣuffah; later known for confronting worldly rulers over equitable distribution of wealth.
