Khawla bint Hakim

Khawlah bint Ḥakīm was an early Companion, of the first score to accept Islam, and the wife of the ascetic ʿUthmān ibn Maẓʿūn. A friend of Khadījah and close to the Prophet's ﷺ household, she was known for her intelligence, her knowledge of medicine, and her gift for matchmaking. Seeing the Prophet's ﷺ prolonged grief after Khadījah's death, she suggested he consider remarriage; asked whom she had in mind, she proposed Sawdah bint Zamʿah as a mature choice and ʿĀʾishah bint Abī Bakr as a young one, and presented the match to each family, the Prophet ﷺ went on to marry both within a month of each other.
