Biography

Qusayy ibn Kilab, the fifth grandfather of the Prophet , reclaimed Mecca for Quraysh from the tribe of Khuzaʿah around 400 CE. He married the daughter of its chief, won the loyalty of the people, and gathered the scattered clans of Fihr. He built the Dar al-Nadwa, took custody of the Kaʿbah, and organised the watering and feeding of the pilgrims. With him began the rise of Quraysh.

Significance

He gathered the clans of Quraysh and won back Mecca, beginning the family's ascent to leadership.
