The Death of Abdul-Muttalib

When the Prophet was eight years old, death visited his family once again. Abdul-Muttalib, now very old and frail, sensed his time was coming. He gathered his sons and entrusted the care of Muhammad to Abu Talib.

Abu Talib was chosen because he was the full brother of Abdullah (the Prophet's father) and was known for his noble and generous nature, despite being poor. When Abdul-Muttalib passed away, the young Muhammad was seen weeping as he followed the funeral procession. He had now lost his father, his mother, and his doting grandfather.
