Husayn ibn Ali
الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّal-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī
Biography
Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī, the second grandson of the Prophet (ﷺ), was born to ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib and Fāṭimah bint Muḥammad less than a year after his older brother al-Ḥasan, conventional dating places him in the fifth year of the Hijrah, though a minority report reverses the two brothers' dates. His name, meaning "little Ḥasan," was given by the Prophet (ﷺ) without needing to be asked, following the pattern he had already set with his brother's name. Together with al-Ḥasan, he is described in a well-known hadith as one of the "leaders of the youth of Jannah, and their father is better than them."
Significance
The Prophet's (ﷺ) second grandson, named by him following the same pattern as his brother al-Hasan; described alongside him as one of the leaders of the youth of Jannah
