Shayba ibn Uthman

A Qurayshī of Banū ʿAbd al-Dār whose father was killed fighting the Muslims at Uḥud, and who accepted Islam only a week before at the Conquest, his faith still on his tongue, not yet in his heart. In the chaos of the rout at Ḥunayn, seeing the Prophet ﷺ nearly alone, he galloped up behind him to avenge his father. He said a blinding light rose to burn him and he shielded his face; the Prophet ﷺ turned, understood, and prayed three times, "O Allāh, drive Satan from Shaybah and guide him." Faith entered his heart at once, and he fought that day beside the Prophet ﷺ and lived a pious life thereafter.
