Biography
al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām رضي الله عنه was the cousin of both the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib, through his mother Ṣafiyyah bint ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, the Prophet's صلى الله عليه وسلم aunt. He was one of the four converts that Abū Bakr brought to Islām in the earliest days, and one of the Ten Companions promised Paradise.
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: 'Every Prophet has been given a Ḥawārī, a devoted disciple and companion. My Ḥawārī is al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām.' He was the father of ʿAbdullāh ibn al-Zubayr.
